Cisco 3750x Stack Cable Length

The catalyst 3750 x switches have a stackpower connector for use with cisco stackpower cables to configure a switch power stack that includes up to four switches.

I was wondering if there was a way to see if the port was administrativly down. If you only use it to make a long chain with 3meter cables then you set yourself up for realy poor performance under load and trouble with split stacks and such things. Depending on the configurations that you have you might need different sized cables. I have read that 1m and 3m cables are available in addition to the default 0 5m stackwise cable.
